Have you ever noticed how the statement “Let me tell you a story” makes the listener a bit happier or more attentive. Generally, it bring good vibes. Human beings love stories, especially if they come in unexpected situations.

When you pick up a novel to read, you know you are dealing with a professional story teller. But when you are in a meeting of the engineering team of your company, or in a technical conference on enterprise software, and a speaker says “I’ll tell you one quick story. It’s a true story …“ (especially when they say this close to the beginning of their speech), when I hear this, I do know that I feel good and perk up a teeny bit. In fact, I paused a Youtube video to come jot this down. Now let me go and listen to the story!
